Meditation has been practised for centuries by ancient sages and since long it has been linked to religions, cultural beliefs, and traditions. The history of meditation is long and has deep roots in spirituality. it is in the recent period that it is gaining popularity as a multi-faceted tool which is much, much beyond spirituality and Meditation is the healthiest way of life.
Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a procedure to focus their mind on a particular object, thought or an activity and achieve a mentally clear and calm state. Meditation has been found to have roots in varied cultures and ancient descriptions, be it Hebrew, Sanskrit or latin. The explanation of meditation is a state of deep peace that occurs when the mind is calm and silent. It is an approach to the train the mind, similar to the way in which exercise trains the body.
In meditation, the mind has to be clear, relaxed and focused. When one meditates one is fully awake and alert but the mind is not focused on the external world or events taking place around you. Meditation requires an inner state that is still and focused so that the mind is calm. When the mind is calm and no longer distracts, the depth of meditation increases.
Meditation is a process of giving your complete attention to whatever thought or activity or object you choose. For instance, if you choose to focus on your breath, then allow yourself to completely focus on breathing and experience it in an open way. One should not try to judge or control it just open yourself to it fully so that there should be no distinction between you and breathing.
Meditation not only gives you inner peace but it has numerous other advantages too. In this modern era, it is not uncommon to spot people with Diabetes, Hypertension, Cancer and much other chronic and fatal diseases. Meditation can work wonders in the management of such diseases. It helps to maintain a state of complete peace and calmness. Even Clinicians in today’s world advise focussing on effective, preventive, non-pharmacological options to treat diseases. Meditation can serve as a boon for such purposes. Meditation works effectively in the following ways.

When & how to practice Meditation
Unlike other exercises, Meditation can be performed at any place and without any accessories. Meditation needs to be practised over a period of time and needs patience and persistence. If Meditation is practised early in the morning, it works best as there is less disturbance at that time but one can choose the time according to his/her schedule. Meditation can be done alone but if you have a group it becomes easy as you will get a positive and supportive community. The time span should be gradually increased for example starting with 10-15minutes and then attaining your desired goal.
Meditation if practised regularly can work wonders not only for your body but also for your mind. It can act as the best exercise for your body as well as a thought process and bring about a change in your health and behaviour. After all, the goal of meditation is not to control your thoughts, it’s to stop letting them control you.
